PRINCIPLES OF CERTIFICATION ACCORDING TO ISO 45001
The structure of ISO 45001 standard is related to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards differences from the mentioned standards can be found especially in the areas related to identification, control and reduction of work hazards. Certification according to ISO 45001 is established as an independent system beside QMS and EMS, or these systems are built simultaneously as integrated systems. ISO 45001 certificate guarantees that the occupational health and safety management system established in the company has been assessed by an accredited certification body and satisfies the requirements of ISO 45001 standard.
ISSUE OF NEW STANDARD ISO 45001
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has issued a new ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management system – Requirements with guidance for use. The publication of the new ISO 45001:2018 standard took place on 12 March 2018, and a three-year transition period for its implementation in companies was set from that date to 12.3.2021. The validity of certificates issued according to CSN OHSAS 18001: 2008 / BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 is established in parallel - the latest by 12.3.2021 .
Due to the situation with the occurrence of COVID -19, it is possible to postpone the transition to the new version of the standard by 6 months, term till September, 30 2021 (see: https://iaffaq.com/).
Certification and recertification of management systems according to OHSAS 18001:2007 will run no later than March 12, 2020. Due to the limitation of certificates issued under OHSAS 18001:2007, we recommend that all applicants for certification and recertification begin to timely plan the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 requirements into their occupational health and safety management systems.
For migrating from OHSAS 18001:2007 to ISO 45001:2018, the IAF (International Accreditation Forum) issued an document IAF MD 21:2018, in which it is stipulated to increase the duration of the audit by 1 auditor man-day additionally to verify the new ISO 45001 requirements against OHSAS 18001.
