Voluntary products certification
Product certification is a process of confirming conformity of products' properties to requirements of a technical specification. Beside risk analysis, testing in an accredited laboratory and comparing the products properties with the specified requirements, it usually involves also surveillance over stability of the certified product's quality throughout the certificate validity. The certificate is often accomplished by granting a licence for using one of the certification marks (ITC Certified Quality, Safe Toys, Giraffe – Safe Shoes...) Product certification can be carried out by the accredited certification body (COV No. 3020), or in a non-accredited manner. The former case involves confirmation of conformity of the product properties to requirements of a regulation (an act, decree, standard, directive, etc.) mentioned in the annex to the certificate of accreditation. In the latter case, any document defining the product requirements may be used for certification.
